FAMILY
Sponsoring a family member to Australia is often more difficult that people expect because there is no automatic right to bring a family member to Australia – even a spouse!! Libby Hogarth & Associates have many years of experience in helping our clients reunite happily with their family members under all of the categories listed below.
You may be able to sponsor family members onshore or offshore under various visa options:
Partner – includes spouse, defacto spouse, fiancé and interdependent partners
Child - includes dependent child, orphaned child and adopted child
Parent
Remaining relative - must be the last relative living overseas
Carer - a relative to provide care for you or a family member, that cannot be reasonably provided by any one else in Australia
Aged dependent relative – must be over pension age
Split family – a special category available for sponsors who are holders of refugee visas AND who declared their partner or children in their refugee visa application.
It is difficult to sponsor siblings unless they meet one of the above categories OR meet requirements for a skilled visa category. Other family members (ie cousins, nieces and nephews grandchildren etc can also be sponsored under the skilled visa category options)
